Shelmet is a Bug-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It evolves into Accelgor when traded for a Karrablast, which evolves into Escavalier simultaneously. Neither evolves if at least one holds an Everstone during the trade. Take a look below for 23 interesting and amazing facts about Shelmet.
1. Shelmet is a bivalve or snail like Pokemon.
2. Its gray shell resembles a knight’s visor, with a coiling spiral of its shell further back.
3. The shell has protrusions on the underside, which it apparently uses as legs.
4. Its inner body is pink with a long, puckered mouth, and green markings below its eyes.
5. It closes the lid on its helmet-like shell as a defensive tactic, and can spit a poisonous sticky fluid.
6. However this strategy doesn’t work against its rival and natural predator Karrablast who can open Shelmet’s shell.
7. It can evolve around the time as its rival through electrical-like energy.
8. It thrives in moist habitats like bogs and swamps.
9. Shelmet and Karrablast are the only Pokémon that have to be traded with a specific Pokémon to evolve, having to be traded with each other.
10. Although Escavalier gains a secondary Steel type from its armor, Shelmet is a pure Bug-type despite wearing the same armor.
11. Shelmet appears to be based on a combination of a snail, possibly a scaly-foot snail, whose shell’s outer layer is made of iron compounds; and a close helmet.
12. This could be a reference to Medieval satirical drawings of snails, which are ironically depicted as giant monsters that knights fought against.
13. It also may also be based on a nautilus.
14. Karrablast and Shelmet may be a reference to coevolution, where the evolution of one species is influenced by changes in another species; in this case, the relationship between predator and prey.
15. Shelmet is a combination of shell and helmet.
16. Shelmet debuted in Enter Elesa, Electrifying Gym Leader!, under the ownership of Bianca. She used it in her Gym battle with Elesa. However, it was quickly defeated by Elesa’s Zebstrika. It reappeared in Evolution Exchange Excitement!, where it was traded with Professor Juniper for her Karrablast, causing it to evolve.
17. A Shelmet appeared in a fantasy in Crisis at Chargestone Cave!.

19. Shelmet debuted in The Case of the Missing Pokémon, where it was one of the Pokémon kidnapped by Team Plasma. It was later returned to its Trainer after being found in a stronghold.
20. Baker Chris owns a Shelmet. It first appeared in Unraveling Mysteries.
21. A Shelmet liberated by Team Plasma appeared in a flashback in Pokédex Lecture.
22. A Shelmet was caught by Whitley in PS543. In the same chapter, it was traded to Blake for his Karrablast, subsequently evolved into Accelgor, and then traded back.
