1. Purugly is a rotund gray and white feline Pokemon with a crescent-shaped head.
2. Its ears are pointed and tipped purple.
3. It has whiskers with a zigzag-like pattern at the end of them.
4. The frilly portion of its spiraling tail is forked, but it usually keeps it clasped around its waist.
5. Despite appearing very sluggish, Purugly will not be reluctant to attack if angered and can be quite fast.
6. Purugly attempts to make itself look larger and more intimidating by cinching its waist with its forked tail.
7. It barges into the nests of other Pokémon and frighten them off so Purugly can claim the nest as its own.
8. It can be found in both urban areas and heavily wooded forests.
9. Purugly is based on a wild tiger cat, though its appearance is closer to an overweight tabby cat. It may also be based on nekomata, a type of cat-based yōkai.
10. Purugly is a combination of purr and ugly. It may also be a play on “pure ugly”.
11. Mars’s Purugly appeared in Double Team Turnover!, which also marked the species’ main series debut. It reappeared in Steeling Peace of Mind! and Saving the World From Ruins!.
12. A Purugly appeared in For The Love Of Meowth!, under the ownership of Mamie. It evolved from her Glameow after it was hurt by James’s Carnivine’s Bullet Seed. Meowth had been attracted to Purugly as a Glameow, but once it evolved and had a sudden personality change, Meowth lost all interest.
13. Purugly debuted in a cameo in The Rise of Darkrai, where it was seen on a rooftop.
14. A Purugly made a small cameo in the opening sequence of Giratina and the Sky Warrior.
15. A Purugly appeared in Yes in Dee Dee, It’s Dawn!, under the ownership of a Coordinator. It was used along with a Roserade for the Double Performance required during the Daybreak Contest.
16. A Purugly made a brief appearance in An Old Family Blend!, under the ownership of a Trainer participating in the Lily of the Valley Conference.
17. Purugly appears in Belligerent Bronzor under the ownership of Mars. While bulky, Purugly is a powerful battler that aided her escape from the Valley Windworks. Mars later calls upon Purugly to battle Diamond, defeating the Drifblim Fantina entrusted to him.
18. A Purugly appeared in a picture in Omega Alpha Adventure 4.
19. Purugly also appears as one of Mars’s Pokémon in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!, and was sent out to fight Hareta and Jun in The Mystery Boy, Jun!!. Purugly had the upper hand when it cut the power to the Valley Windworks, but Hareta’s Shinx solved the problem by restoring power with its Spark. It later battled, and was quickly defeated by, Deoxys.
