Popplio is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VII. It evolves into Brionne starting at level 17, which evolves into Primarina starting at level 34.

Along with Rowlet and Litten, Popplio is one of three starter Pokémon of Alola available at the beginning of Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon. Along with Rowlet and Litten, it was the second Generation VII Pokémon to be revealed to the public on May 10, 2016. Take a look below for 20 amazing and fun facts about Popplio.

1. Popplio is a pinniped Pokemon that is primarily blue.

2. It has large eyes, a long, white snout with black whiskers, and round, pink nose.

3. There is a small, rounded earflap on each side of its head.

4. Around its neck is a light blue ruff, which extends past its shoulders.

5. It has four flippers.

6. The front flippers are larger than the hind, and have white markings separating its toes.

7. Popplio is able to snort bubbles of water from its nose, which it uses as part of its battle strategy. 

8. On land, it uses the elasticity of its bubbles to perform acrobatic stunts and jumps.

9. It practices daily with increasingly larger water bubbles.

10. It can swim at 25 mph (40 km/h).

11. Popplio shares its category with Seel and Dewgong. They are all known as the Sea Lion Pokémon.

12. Popplio’s Japanese name and its romanization were revealed in a tweet of their trademark on April 17, 2016.

13. Popplio and its evolved forms are the only starter Pokémon to have a piscine body.

14. Popplio may be based on a sea lion and a Hawaiian monk seal with elements of a circus clown.

15. Popplio’s propensity for blowing bubbles from its nose may also be based on the hooded seal and its inflatable nasal cavity.

16. Popplio may be a combination of sea lion pup, pop, pōpō (Hawaiian for ball), and ʻīlio-holo-i-ka-uaua (Hawaiian for the Hawaiian monk seal; meaning “dog that runs in rough water”).

17. Popplio debuted in Alola to New Adventure! as Lana’s main Pokémon. It evolved into a Brionne in Evolving Research!, and again into a Primarina in The One That Didn’t Get Away!.

18. A Popplio briefly appeared alongside a Rowlet and Litten in I Choose You!.

19. A Trainer’s Popplio appeared in a flashback in Battling the Beast Within! as a resident of what is now the Ultra Ruin.

20. Popplio debuted in The Delivery of Rotom and the Girl, under the ownership of Professor Kukui. In A Photoshoot and the Abandoned Thrifty Megamart, he was revealed to have given it to Hau. It later evolved into Brionne and eventually further into Primarina.
